More than once over my career, I have been asked by people in customer service roles, “why should I go out of my way for customers?” My inside voice always responds with “Why did you go into a customer service job in the first place?” Fortunately, my internal filters are still working, so my outside voice usually manages something more like, “What goes around, comes around.”
Unfortunately, most people who ask me that question just look at me funny when I say this. They really just don’t get it.
